Travelling to and from school

Safety at School drop off and pick up

As our school continues to grow so does the traffic at drop off and pick up times. As a courtesy to parents and for the safest drop off for all students please drop your child off at the school side curb. Staff kindly park on the opposite side of street allowing more curb side access for your child to arrive at school safely.

We ask that parents use the designated 15 minute drop off/pick up zones around our school. Children are vulnerable pedestrians as they are smaller, harder to see and often impulsive. A curb side drop off is the safest way for them to arrive at school.

A reminder to all parents using the 15 minute drop off/pick up zone to be courteous to other parents by not holding a parking space for a long period of time. These bays are designed for a Stop, Drop, Go system and allows students to be picked up quickly and safely.

School zones are in place outside every school in NSW to keep children safe during school travel times. There is a 40km/h speed limit within each school zone and heavy penalties apply for motorists who drive over the speed limit or break other school zone laws including illegal parking and turning.

Please Take care when travelling in a school zone and give way to all traffic. We want all students, staff and families to arrive home safely every day.

Bikes and scooters

Children who ride bikes and scooters to school are expected to know and obey all relevant road rules. By law, bicycle helmets must be worn.

Students must dismount at the Wood Street entrance and walk their bicycles and scooters to the racks located at the rear of the Administration block.

It is recommended by the Roads and Traffic Authority, for safety reasons, that only children from Year 4 upwards ride bikes and scooters to school.

Buses

All buses pick up and deliver students to the bus zone in Arthur Street.

In the afternoon, town bus students assemble at a designated area on the basketball court. Country bus students assemble in the bus shelter. All students must wait for teacher direction before moving onto the bus.

Free bus travel

All students in Years K-2 are eligible for free bus travel. Students in Years 3-6 living outside a 1.6km radius from the school are also eligible to apply for free bus travel. Application forms are available online at www.transportnsw.info/schools-students. If the bus pass is lost, a second pass can be purchased from the local bus depot in Brissett Street.

If the bus pass is lost, a second pass can be purchased from the local bus depot.

Walking to school or travelling by car

If your child walks or is driven to school, it is advisable to use the designated crossings in Henderson, Wood or Ross streets. These are the safest places to cross the road.

Early arrival

Students who arrive between 8.30am and 8.50am are expected to sit in a designated area under the supervision of an executive staff member. At 8.50am a bell signals for students to place their bags outside their classrooms before commencing morning play. There is no supervision before 8.30am.

Student pickup

Parents wishing to meet their child at the conclusion of the day can wait outside of gate they are collecting child from. EG: Ross Street, Wood Street and Henderson Street.

All gates open at 3:15pm and have a staff member on duty to assist with helping cross the road and ensure all children get collected and home safely.
