School uniform

The Department of Education supports the wearing of school uniform by students and the upholding of high standard of dress by students and staff.

The Department's uniform policy may be accessed at:www.det.nsw.edu.au/policies

The uniform at Inverell Public School (IPS) is decided upon after consultation with the parent body. The P&C officially ratifies the uniform.

This process paves the way for the school to implement appropriate measures to encourage our students to wear the school uniform.

The benefits

The benefits of students wearing a school uniform are:

  • Wearing a uniform is a reflection of student willingness to belong to a school. This positive attitude usually shows itself as a willingness to be cooperative with staff and fellow pupils.
  • Wearing a uniform signals to the student that they are in a formal situation that has certain expectations of them. These expectations include taking their school work seriously.
  • The image of IPS and its students is enhanced.
  • The community sees the wearing of a uniform as an indicator that the students are respectful of their school and community.
  • It saves arguments in the morning. "Get dressed for school" means "Put on your uniform."
  • A uniform helps with identification. This is particularly useful during excursions and when mixing with other schools.

Must-wear occasions

There are occasions when students will be expected to be in school uniform before they will be allowed to participate in an activity.

Parent will be advised when this is the case.

Examples of these occasions are:

  • when leading the school
  • when representing the school
  • when engaged in activities away from the school.
