Early Birds

Inverell Public School's Early Birds program aims to introduce children to our school and to the Kindergarten setting.

Children participating in the Early Birds program:

  • become familiar with routines, structures, students and staff at Inverell Public School,
  • are encouraged to become involved in a number of learning activities, social games and experiences at school before they start their formal schooling,
  • begin to establish relationships with older students, and
  • help develop early literacy and numeracy skills for a confident and smooth start to school life.

The program allows staff to build important connections with each individual child, providing a strong foundation for future learning, and assisting in careful class placement for the following year. Staff and parents develop a strong professional relationship as they begin to work together, focusing on the educational pathway of each student.

The Early Birds program is offered in Term 3 and Term 4. We welcome not only children attending pre-school who will be enrolling in Kindergarten, but also those still uncertain about which school they will be attending.

The program runs fortnightly from 12.00-1.00pm for three days (Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) each fortnight, during Terms 3 and 4. A bus is available to transport those attending from the respective pre-school or long day care centres from 11.30am and return them by 1.30pm. Parents may choose to bring their child at 12.00pm and pick them up at 1.00pm if they are not attending a pre-school on those days.

In addition to our Early Birds sessions we host an annual Easter Hat Parade in Term One and a Teddy Bear's Picnic in Term Two where preschools, family day carers and parents/carers are invited to attend. Inverell Public School welcomes parents and children to our school at any time to view our facilities. We would like to offer you assistance in choosing your school and ensuring a quality start to your child's school life.
