Inverell Public School offers a unique opportunity for all students to progress from year to year in a supportive and caring environment.
Programs familiarise students with school expectations and their new class settings. This aims to reduce anxiety, develop social skills and provide the necessary knowledge and understanding for a confident and smooth transition to the following school year.
Students who are entering Kindergarten are invited to take part in the very popular Early Birds program in Terms 3 and 4 in the year prior to starting Kindergarten. Children receive a comprehensive orientation to primary school before moving into Kindergarten the following year.
Year 6 teachers work closely with the local high schools to develop a comprehensive Year 6 to Year 7 transition program. This program operates in Terms 3 and 4 each year and aims to orientate students to their new high school setting for the following year.
For example, Year 6 students visit Macintyre High School throughout the year, working with high school teachers in curriculum areas such as Agriculture and Design & Technology. This allows them to gain an understanding of high school subjects and teachers, as well as exploring new skills and interests.
